Even stranger, the one line that was formatted for proofing in English was not either the first or the last line (which might make some sense). For reasons completely unknown to me, allīut one of the lines in the table were formatted for the Proofing Language to be French. I created and typed in the table (did not copy and past it from somewhere else). It was a short table (10 lines) that I had newly added to the document. Part of the document that had the "wrong language" problem. I did what you and the other person suggested. I sort of have the problem cleared up - but not entirely resolved. Generally this works best if the same language is the default Windows language. If the language of new documents is not the desired language, go toįile | Options | Language and make sure that the desired language is set as preferred. Go to Review | Language | Language | Set Proofing Language, and select the variety of English you prefer. For a given document, select the entire document ( Ctrl+A), Language is a font property that can be applied just like bold or italic, and the language of any given portion determines the proofing tools used (see It appears that the language applied to the document (or at least part of it) is French. I was unable to find anything that sounded like it would do the job. I tells me that there are 13 total suggestions, with 2 of them being English and 11 of them being French.īefore writing this request for help, I have looked around a good bit for an option to remove this sudden obsessions with French that WORD seems suddenly to have developed. I clicked on the new Editor icon (button) in the upper right of the Home ribbon.When I right click on the word, the suggested "correct" spelling appears to be French.When I type new text in an existing document, correctly spelled words such as "core", "license", "preparation", and "amendment" show on the screen with the wavy red underline indicating they are misspelled.(I find hiding the Find command under the Editing button to be annoying, but that is another matter and I can live with it.) Three new icons (buttons) have appeared on the right hand side of the WORD Home ribbon - Editing, Dictate, and Editor.
Here are some the symptoms that I am seeing: I haveĪn Office 365 subscription and I believe that there has been an auto-update recently. I do not speak French and did not knowingly do anything to cause this change in behavior. It appears to me that Microsoft WORD is marking "misspelled" words based on a FRENCH dictionary. This is a problem that has occurred in the past day or so.
